The winter dreariness is ending…I can feel it. And taste it. Streetpops opened for the season this weekend and all is once again right with the world.
Streetpops does it up right when they have an event: popsicles, music, live photobooth (aka a real, live photographer behind a camera) with props, AND a grilled cheese food truck. Please don’t ask me what’s so special about a streetpop, or why you should drive down to Main and Liberty to get one, or why a popsicle would be a better alternative than a cone from Graeter’s. Just trust me. Take a look at these flavors!
Sorry for the phone pics, but they get the job done. Check us out enjoying Cookies N’ Cream and Mango Lassi streetpops.
We love living in our neighborhood. Really. However, things like this happen occasionally that just make you scratch your head:
CovPD says “brush fire.” I say, non. The plants between the firetruck and the retaining wall caught fire this afternoon. This little gem of landscaping is more often than not filled with muddy scum running off the hillside and, seeing how it is March and not August, there has been no recent lack of precipitation. I say “local hooligan activity.” They shooed us off and we didn’t grab more than this one photo, but I’ll try to remember to get some better shots and you can decide for yourself.
Had some of the finest folks I’ve ever met over for breakfast earlier this month. And by breakfast I mean, more specifically, their first experience with goetta. For all you coastal types who’ve also never heard of the glorious product of Cincinnati’s German heritage, goetta is delicious. Until you’ve tried it yourself I won’t waste too much of my breath explaining the breakfast meat that’s best described as a combination of pork/sausage and oatmeal. It can be served sliced off a roll like cookie dough and kept in patties or scrambled up (my favorite). Prepared either way, the guys at Finke Market make the best stuff on either side of the river. You’ll probably be hearing a lot more about goetta, either after our next big brunch or after Goetta Fest this summer. Yup. Goetta Fest.
We didn’t want our Finke’s goetta getting lonely, so we rounded out the meal for our non-native friends with a veritable “best of” assortment: a cinnamon coffee cake from Busken Bakery and fresh eggs from the brothers at Tewes Farm.
