Cold Crafting

There’s nothing like a cold day to force you into a crafting activity.
‘Tis the season, anyway.

I think these upturned doilies are the sweetest things.
Snow flakes?  Buttercups?  Who cares?  Sweet and delicate.

If you can’t be kitschy on Valentine’s Day, I don’t know when else you can.  Celebrate wisely, with lots of chocolate and wine.  Amen.

Catnip

We went to our favorite Saturday morning strolling ground, the zoo, the other day to see this year’s Zoo Babies.  There aren’t many things cuter than a three month old baby gorilla named Gladys, let me tell you.  Anyway, to cap the day off, a pet adoption event had set up shop in the zoo parking lot to capture all of us animal lovers on the way back to our cars.  We didn’t end up taking any more four-legged friends home, but they were handing out these nifty catnip packs…

So, into my last remaining empty flower pot it went:

If it grows, I’m not sure they’ll need any additional excitement in their lives, though.  Ack.  This one is squirrelly enough already.

Bouquet production

So, my great friend was getting married to another great friend of mine and I was now fully in charge of creating the ribbon bouquet for her to carry in place of her real bouquet during the dress rehearsal (now you’re up to speed).  This entailed collecting all the ribbons and other gift wrapping prettiness from her bridal showers and then fashioning it into a big poofy paper-plate mounted bouquet.  Piece of cake, no?

Turns out I’m not as crafty as I thought and I had to call in reinforcements.

Houston: We.Haz.Tulle.

Lots and lots of tulle, actually, which turned out to be a lovely contributing element to the bouquet at the end.  But it was touch and go at the start.

My reinforcement helped me tame and untangle all of the bows and ribbons into ever growing gorgeousness, beating speed records as she went.

Then the cats wanted to help.

And then the wine was gone and the bouquet was finished!  Ta-dah!

Valentine’s Day

I concerned my husband this morning by decrying our lack of empty toilet paper rolls in the house.  The horror.

This could only mean one thing:

I made my valentines today! I may be single-handedly keeping the USPS in business, which is another one of my 2013 resolutions.  For further support for this type of behavior, read this.

I hope you all have a good week and a full mailbox!  xo
